  1. For liquor, only pack what you are willing to have confiscated.  Don't offer any to the other passengers.

Most people successfully bring on booze when it's packed in the suitcase.  (Not your carry-on!)  My stepfather carries booze onboard every time he takes a cruise (15+ cruises in the last 10 years) and has never had it confiscated.  That being said, you should be fully prepared to politely swear that you didn't know it was against policy and let them take it.

You are allowed to take canned and bottled beverages on board with you - enough for your personal use.   Just put it in a suitcase or duffle bag.

  2. We brought some vodka on board by putting it in an empty mouthwash bottle and adding green food coloring.  But it was not worth it.  We rinsed the bottle out a million times and ran it through the dishwasher twice, but our vodka still tasted minty.  We were hardly in our room except to get ready for dinner and walking all the way back to the room was not worth it, so we barely drank any of it.

A group we met on the boat was able to buy some rum in one of the ports and sneak it back on in a t-shirt and we did drink some of that.  Good luck!

  3. you are not allowed to take alcohol on board the ship. There is a great site to learn more about cruises.

    cruiseclues.com

    cruisecritic.com.

  4. They don't allow carry on alcohol, and charge for everything.

So try to get a cheap cruise, that way when you get the bill for extras at the end you will not mind as much.

This website has cruises starting at $159:

  5. The only drinks that you can take on ship are bottled water and soft drinks, preferably in plastic bottles.  You CANNOT take alcohol on any cruise ships, except that some lines allow you to bring a bottle of wine.  But then they charge a corkage fee of $15. to open it.

The cruise line web sites are very specific in this and several people posting answers about bringing booze on ship have said they were told to come open their luggage and it was removed. (they do scan your luggage before/as it goes on ship just like at the airport).

If you purchase alcohol from the duty free shop in the airport or from a store in  a port stop you will be required to leave it with ship's security until the last day of the cruise when it will be returned to you.  Every time you board ship ALL of your carry on packages and bags will be scanned and the cruise lines do look carefully for liquor.
