Question:

Taking guns interstate?

Moving to WA from Vic. The removalists won't transport 3 guns used for work purposes and obviously we can't take them on the plane. They are registered. Has anyone had to transport guns? How did you do it?

  1. If there is not an easier way to do it; you should be able to go to a gun dealer and he can ship the gun to another dealer where you can pick it up.  Sorry but i do not now what Vic stands for...Canada?

  2. You are effectively importing a firearm into the US and you need to file paperwork with the ATF.  If you are a non-immigrant alien, then it would be form 6 NIA.   If you are moving as an immigrant, then you would use this one.... http://www.atf.gov/forms/pdfs/f53303a.pd...

Even someone just visiting for a hunting trip or shooting competition must file paperwork first.

You can not just ship it to a US FFL, because they would technically be an importer and would be subject to even more stringent paperwork and requirements.

  3. I've never done it but I'm quite sure that you can get the airline to transport firearms for you at special request. I can't remember exactly but I think you register it with the police and get to the airport about 2 hours early to sort it out.

  4. Vic?

    As in Victoria Canada?

You need to ship them through an Importer.

You might actually be better off selling them through a dealer in Victoria and then when you get your citizenship in the US if you are not already one, take the money and go get new ones. I do not believe Washington state registers firearms.

If your not crossing international boundaries then to move them from state to state take them on the plane with you in checked baggage. You have to declare them, TSA will inspect them - you show them unloaded they never touch - then you lock them in a hard sided case.

The only requirements for licensing/registering would be your surrender of license AFTER you leave and any requirements where you are going to if they are not a free state.

  5. Of course you can take them on the plane. They need to be checked rather than carry on. Here is the link to flying with firearms and ammunition.

  6. You should be able to transport guns on the plane. Either that or you can have an FFL import them for you. There is no gun registration in Washington State, but the FFL will charge you a small fee for the importation.

  7. From your use of the word removalists and the destination being Vic it would be safe to assume that you are not wanting to move the guns within American borders which would be as easy as shipping the guns to yourself UPS or FedEx

The applicable laws would be those  about importation of firearms
