Question:

Taking in two new children?

I have a pair of twins who are turning two soon. And I'm also due with my last child in January. A few days ago my Brother-In-Law and his wife got into a serious car accident. They didn't survive. My husband and I, being their ten month old son and one month old daughters God Parents have decided to take them into our home and "adopt" them as our own children. What can we do to help them get used to having a new home with two new "siblings"?

  1. That is going to be really hard on them, and you and your children. I am so sorry for your situation! Good Luck. my advise would be that you treat them as your own children but never lie to them about what happened to their parents. Just give them love and comfort.

  2. Woah... 10 month and 1 month? That must have been hard on the biological parents anyway! Woah. Well luckily all kids involved are young, so it might be hard on them at first but I doubt any of them will remember after a few years anyway. Try and associate the new kids with positive things for your twins... like every time they do something nice for the babies they get praised/rewarded/treated and every time they do something spiteful (if they do) then you give the positive attention to the babies. And then try to encourage them to give positive attention too, like an apology. GOOD LUCK! (You'll need it!)
