  1. Definitely St Andrews

  2. University Collage London

  3. Agree with Durham and St. Andrews, however, for particular subjects there are acknowledged hot spots: for instance East Anglia for creative writing, Lancaster for history, UCLAN for forensic science.

  4. Prestige-wise, Oxbridge and the top London unis are the ones that traditionally never fall below the top five in league tables and are seen as very strong, academically speaking, so that's LSE and Imperial... especially LSE. Both are highly specialised in their subjects. UCL is also very good. Outside of London and Oxbridge then Warwick is also good, as well as the other universities people have mentioned.

  5. St Andrews

  6. well i'm american, i think of cambridge. but i don't know many other shcools there anyway

  7. i agree with Tarek St Andrews is only the oldest i wouldnt account for prestige on that alone.

Anything within the University of London institute such as Imperial, UCL, LSE, SOAS, Kings, Royal Holloway and theres loads more.

  8. durham university is- it does better than oxbridge in some degrees!

google the 'Russel group' to find out the best universities

  9. after oxford and cambridge

imperial college of london is the best

dont listen to people saying st andrews is the best as they are only saying that because st andrews is one of the oldest universities in britain

  10. University of Edinburgh (to be included)

Alumni and Affiliations: U.S. Constitutional Signatories, U.S. Senators, Prime Ministers throughout the world, Sir Walter Scott, David Hume, Adam Smith, Gordon Brown, Ian Rankin, Sir Winston Churchill (rector), Prince Phillip (Chancellor), Charles Darwin, Max Born, Sir Author Conan Doyle, Piers Sellers, Chris Hoy (3xGold@Bejing For UK), J.M. Barrie, Thomas Carlyle, James Clerk Maxwell, John Russell, ......

Edinburgh, Oxford, and Cambridge are the only universities in the UK affiliated with the two major European university associations Coimbra and LERU.  Other affiliations, Oxford is a member of Europaem and Edinburgh is a member of Universitas 21.

Other great universities to be duly noted, aside from Oxbridge and Edinburgh:

The Londons: Imperial, LSE, UCL, KCL, LBS

    Durham

    Bristol

St. Andrews (A small ancient w/ a solid alumni, Prince William, and Golf on its side)

In general, all Russell Group universities are well respected.

Warwick should be noted as a young powerhouse not to be overlooked.

Manchester a great all around university

    Nottingham stands out as well.

Any of these universities should stand you in good stead.

  11. St Andrews is the most prestigious but the University of Aberdeen is also great.

  12. Depends what subject you are taking
