Taking laptop to Disney World via airplane?

I have decided to bring my laptop with me on my trip to disney in florida. i am leaving pittsburgh international airport and landing in orlando's airport. i need to know how much longer it takes to bring it through security than it would to not bring it at all and what kinds of procedures they do to check laptops (i've heard of many different procedures and im not sure which one to believe). also, I need to know how i can get internet connection at disney's resort "Port Orleans: Riverside". i have read that there is a port in the room that requires an ethernet cable or something? im really unsure. so i need to know what supplies i will need to get internet connection while staying there. if you could answer both of these questions, it would be greatly appreciated.

additional info: my laptop is a Dell Vostro 1500. i am traveling on southwest airlines.

  1. i dont know about the internet connection but i was on 4 planes in the last week and brought my laptop on all of them. you just take it out of your bag and put it in a bin just like your shoes, jacket, liquids, and other stuff. its no faster without it i promise. hope this helps :D

  2. you dont need anything to do with technology when you go to a leisure place like Disney. your sad.

  3. Oh wow, this question was made just for me to answer because I took a trip to Disney a couple of years ago in an airplane, with my laptop AND stayed at Port Orleans.

Okay, first of all there are no extra procedures to scan a laptop than to scan any other on-hand luggage. All you do is send it through the X-Ray scanner and pick it up after they look at it.

While on the plane, you can have it out when they announce "you may now turn on your portable devices"... basically the only times you can't have it on is when they are taking off and landing.

As for internet at Port Orleans, when I was there, you had to pay $10 to access the internet.

I hope this helps! Feel free to e-mail me if you have any further questions :)

EDIT: You said, "i have read that there is a port in the room that requires an ethernet cable or something?"

Yes, I don't think they have wireless but there is a hookup in the room for it... just be sure to bring an ethernet cable with you :) but if you don't have one I think they might have some extras for you in the lobby, but I'm not for sure.

One more thing, I believe I remember you being able to pay with the built-in card (Master card, Visa, American Express, etc.) reader connected to the ethernet plug.

  4. Honestly, as far as like security goes, if you are carrying it in the case, you just have to take it out of the bag, and put it into a bin like your shoes and such.

I believe that you get wireless cable with your room stay I'd check though, make sure when you are leaving your room, and leaving your laptop there, that you keep it somewhere secure, like in your suitcase, you don't want anybody stealing it.
