I have booked our travel but want to be able to be flexible regarding accomodation....so would like to have a lot of little hotels I could suggest, maybe a different one each night! Also, any interesting cultural attractions, I am familiar with some of the cathedrals and of course the tower but any personal opinions much appreciated! Budget for hotels is around £120 a night.

Thanks in advance

  1. Speaking as a woman...no way would I want to trudge around changing hotels each night.  Pick a place and stay there.  You probably won't be in the hotel that much anyway.

For food...I love lunch at Les Canons des Gobelins outside the Gobelins metro station.  The Panini Rome is very tasty.  At dinner, I really like Les Philosophes in the Marais and l'Alouette on rue de la Glaciere in the 13th.  Also, all along rue Mouffetard in the 5th (Quartier Latin), there are cafes that are very good.  I ate in several different ones during my study abroad trip a few years ago.

One thing I really like about European restaurants is that they post the menu (called "la carte" in French) outside the building or in the window.  You can stroll along, looking at the menus to decide what appeals to you at that time.  Since I happen to be the world's pickiest eater (I'm not joking about that!), the menu being posted means I know before I go inside that there will be something for me to eat.

  2. only if you take me then I can show you

  3. These guys (and girls) know what they're talking about:  pick a nice hotel, centrally located, and stay there.  Spend your weekend seeing Paris, not changing hotels!!  We really liked Hotel Mansart for the great location (Place Vendome-around the corner from the Ritz) among other things, and it might be in your budget too.

We enjoyed eating in the Eiffel Tower (Jules Verne or Altitude 95), the top floor of Montparnasse (Ciel de Paris), both have great views as the sun sets over Paris, and the Dinner cruise on the Seine (Bateaux Parisien) is very romantic.

As for cultural attractions, the best museums for your weekend might be the Rodin next to Les Invalades, the Orangerier (Monet) in the Jardin Tuileries or the ancient Roman ruins near Museé Cluny and Arènes de Lutèce (Les).

Bon voyage and bonne chance!!  Enjoy!!

  4. I can't imagine that trudging from one hotel to another, baggage in tow, is a particulary romantic thing for you to be spending your time doing.

Consider the Hotel Left Bank St. Germain at 9, rue de l'Ancienne Comédie in the 6th arrondissment. Its very well located and quite lovely. You can read more about it here:

Look at the "special offers" prices. They have double rooms including breakfast and taxes for as little as 130 euros which is well within your budget.

If you do stay there then the Procope which is right next door is the oldest restaurant in Paris and has been operating in the same spot since 1686. http://www.blanc.net/procope/

Another pleasant place to eat is La Methode at 2, rue Descartes just a few blocks from the Pantheon.

  5. I do not have any information for you but I just want to say that your girl friend is one lucky girl!!

  6. If she is a s*x and the City fan take her to Kong, most romantic restaurant in Paris, overlooking Pont Neuf. This is the famous restaurant that Carrie went to when she was in Paris.

Buddah bar is also a great experience.

  7. the Hotel Muget, near Rue Cler is a very nice place.  Walking distance to the Eifel Tower and Hote De Invaleds.  Rue Cler is a very typical Paris neighborhood.  Pedestrian only street with markets for your needs.  Many wonderful restaurants near by as well as the metro.  Paris is best enjoyed by walking and finding your own adventure.  Everyone will share theirs with you, but take a few steps and make your own memories.  That being said take one of the boat cruises on the Seine to see the city from a different perspective, at night or sunset is very pretty.

  8. Did you try Venere.com for hotels?  Sometimes they have some great deals...  and they also have B & B's...  But I wouldn't switch hotels - just pick one & stick with it (it's a lot of work to switch for a girl!).

For our first visit we saw:  Eiffel Tower, the Louve Museum, did a boat cruise...  In general we just walked around a lot & enjoyed the scenery...  You can buy a 3 day Metro pass too - which will make your life a lot easier!
