Question:

Taking my little girl camping?

My little girl will be just shy of 2 months old. My parents are all camping, and they want me to come visit and even stay the night. They have a camper so thats where we would sleep, and I live in NYS so the weather is around 70-80 this time of year. The problem is there isnt room for the pack n play in the camper, but we have this little bouncer thing that she sleeps in. Do you think it would be ok for me to bring her camping for a day, and if so, let her sleep in the bouncer thing (it sits low to the ground, vibrates and plays music) for the night?

Also can infants that old use sun block, and/or bug spray?

  1. Babies are tough little things we have to remember. I think it would be fantastic to go. Ok bouncers aren't the best things for babies to sleep in but its only one night! Sun lotion available for babies and also little tiny wrist bands that have bug repellant (Mothercare.....shop in UK dunno if you have it there?) So you wont be spraying her with chemicals. They do nets too, definatley a must for you there. Have a great time :-)

  2. ok so saying that the baby will be exposed to more germs in the air.... since when is fresh country air more harmful than smoggy city air? Come on!

If you want to take her then do just that. But you really sould find something for her to sleep in. Like a portable bassinet, something small. The bouncer isn't good enough. And i would most defiantly call the doctors to find out about the sun block thing. Just a nurse can answer that one for you.

But she will not be harmed one bit by it. The fresh pure air will be good for her, not harmful.

or if you have a bassinet at home check and see if it comes apart and if it does take it with you. That worked great for me and folded better than the play yard.

    Good luck and have fun

  3. i think camping would be fine...letting her sleep in the bouncer for naps would be fine but during the night she should sleep with you if you cant take the pack n play. and im not sure about the bug spray but they do make infant sunblock you should use instead of the adult one.

  4. Go have fun there will be lots of adults to help.  Use an infant sunblock and try to avoid the sun and bugs.  I would prefer to avoid any chemicals on babies super absorbent skin.  If you can use light gauze to block the sun and keep an eye on her to protect her from bugs that would be better.

  5. I would give your doctor a call to make sure it is okay. Babies that young can not have sunblock or bug spray. Sunblock is a least 6 months old, bug spray I am unsure. If you do decide to go make sure you get her a hat and baby sunshades and bring an umbrella for when you are outside with her. My husband and I really wanted to go camping this summer but decided not to, our daughter was born May 7th. It would just be too much on her and on us. Maybe you can tell them you can visit for the day and the evening but have to head home after that. I do really suggest giving your baby's doctor a call, his answer will really confirm it for you. What ever you decide have fun. =)

  6. The chair is not a good thing for her to sleep in for a full night. Also, the problem with taking such a young child camping at that age is that they will be exposed to a lot more allergens than normal and that can cause serious problems.

  7. We took my daughter camping all the time when she was a baby.  Please use a sunblock made for infants and keep a hat on her to avoid sun in the face.  My daughter even at 2 months old really like sunglasses too.  Being that she's only 2 months old, she won't be playing on the ground, so you don't have to worry about her eating dirt and bugs.

As for letting her sleep in the bouncy chair, I think that's acceptable, as long as it's not a habit.  I babysat a little girl once, where the only place she would sleep was in a car seat, never in a crib.  So if it's comfortable for her and she doesn't seem to have a problem with it, go and enjoy the great outdoors.
