Question:

Taking opinions. The best Horse Fly Spray?

I am really getting tired of spraying my horses everyday and costly too. Right now I use Bronco. If anyone has a better spray (even if it costs more, in the long run it will save me) that lasts more than one day. Sure would appreciate some ideas.

  1. I used this and LOVED it. It worked really well and smelled great.

I have also had good result with this spray:

Both are a little pricy but they work really well.

  2. Repel-X.  You can buy it in bulk and mix your own for a spray bottle.  Buy a fly mask for face and ears.

  3. Wow, I went through the same exact thing as you...using the same product!!!  When Bronco didn't work for me, I switched to Mana Equine Pro.  It says you can leave it on for weeks...and that maybe true for stable kept horses, but my pasture kept horse needs it once a week...althought thats still great and it works a lot better than Bronco!. My 32oz bottle was only 14 bucks and, living in a major fly-infested state, it lasts me most the summer!  Hope I helped!!!  Good luck.

  4. I like to use Marigold Fly Spray. It won't burn a horse's eyes, or wounds, it's pesticide-free, and I find it works well. It is non-toxic. It's not sticky and should not attract dust.

I haven't used Bronco, so I don't know if it works well, but I really like Marigold Fly Spray. Katie is right. It does smell great! :) Good luck!

  5. I like the repel-x as well. It seems to do very well with flies, but also repels ticks... which is a BIG deal in my area.

  6. Repel X is good for the horse's hair as it is water based and doesn't blister if you apply it over and over without rinsing. I just don't think that it last that long, but is pretty good to show with as it doesn't attract the dirt/dust of a show ring like the oil based fly sprays do.   I have give Bronco a fair trial, a REALLY fair trial, but it doesn't work as well for me as several others, namely TriTech...I make sure that I don't reapply before rinsing the old off, especially the elbows/legs...because it will cause blistering if you aren't careful.  Frankly (I hate to admit it) but I don't want to repel flies, I want to see them drop to the ground when I spray...that's just me.  Diotomateous Earth in the fine flour form is pretty good, just has to be applied every day, very inexpensive but it does sweat off somewhat.  I also like to put it around on the "piles" as it interupts the reproduction cycle...it's facinating stuff, and it completely harmless to man or beast, but not to insects.

  7. Bronco!!!!

    All the way! =)

  8. I think Bronco also makes a liquid repellent that you apply on the trouble spots with a glove every 5-7 days. It seems to work pretty well.

  9. I use Tritec and it is pretty good, though not perfect.  I have also started using the natural one from Finish Line.  It comes as a concentrate and is pretty cheap, but I have just begun to test it.  I also like repel X.  Generally, if you look at what everyone else is using, get something else!  Flies seem to get resistant and changing chemicals usually helps
