Okay I live in PR, and we have those crank windows. I have a set of glass ones and need to take out only one pane. How do I do this?

  1. If you are a minor you should allow an adult to deal with the window problem.

But, if you are an adult...

Here we go. The metal railings which hold the glass have a "clip" on each side at the ends, those clips prevent the glass from sliding out. By "clip" I mean that the manufacturer bent, like an elbow", the extra length of aluminum to wrap it to the other side of the rail in order to hold the glass in place. The older aluminum window rail does not have a movable clip.

First I would put on some heavy duty gloves and wrap the entire pane with an old towel and tape it, because broken glass can injure you. Then...wear some goggles, and very gently pry the "clip" open on each side with something like a s***w driver. Once the "clips" are extended take off the tape and towel and now you can slide out the broken pane and replace it with the new one. If the glass is stuck you can spray or drop some oil into the rails, it will slide out a little easier. Keep your safety gear on until after you dispose of the broken pane and have pressed down the clips to their original positions. You should press down on the clips with a wooden dowel, using something else may crack the new pane. If a little corner of the clip is sticking out you can squeeze it back into shape a little at a time with a pair of pliers. You should have a small piece of cardboard between the clip and the pliers since putting pressure on the glass may also crack it.

Good luck, and tell the coquíes I said hi.
