  1. Weight gain can occur as a side effect of some beta blockers, especially the older ones, such as atenolol (Tenormin) and metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol-XL). The average weight gain is between 2 and 4 pounds (0.9 and 1.8 kilograms). Newer beta blockers, such as carvedilol (Coreg) and nebivolol (Bystolic), are not associated with weight gain. Ask your doctor if it is possible to switch on the latter types.

  2. go to medscape.com and look medication up and check under adverse reactions to see if weight gain is a side effect of taking the medication. I would not recommend stopping your medication as u already know it is a cardiac med and you may have a life threating condition with your tachycardia. You should see your doctor and explain the situation he maybe able to help you and please let him know that you are getting depressed over this whole issue; he might be able to give you medication to help that also. I hope you can work things out with your inner self. I wish you luck.
