My friend is currenty on the pill (take for 3 weeks, stop for1), however she has a big party coming up and didn't want to be 'on' during it, however it falls when she has the 1 week off the pill. If she didn't stop taking the pill for that week then stopped for the next week after the party would she be okay?

  1. Yes it is fine to carry on with the next packet without having the 1 week break.  I used to do this when I went on holiday so I did not have period, she may get some spotting but not a full period.

This is ok as a one off but not on a regular basis.

  2. Tell her if she wants to miss her week off the pill she can however she should not then stop the next week.

She should finish this months as normal and then start straight onto next months pills and carry on taking them to the next month.

So she will be skipping her period for that month.  Perfectly fine to do but only ocassionally.  Read the instructions with the pill or talk to a doctor for more information.

  3. you can take 2 packs together, i.e. take it for 6 weeks, then stop, think it says this in the instructions

  4. This is a common and acceptable thing to do for special events. Basically she takes 42 pills in a row then takes a 7 day break. It is not usually a problem, provided it is only done occasionally.

  5. She can either run the 2 packs together or take 4 weeks and then have a break. It isn't harmful and it should work. My gynae told me to do this as I get painful periods and pms. She might get some spotting if she takes her pills for 6 weeks, but this doesn't mean her contraception has failed. It's just breakthrough bleeding.

  6. She should be fine running two packs together with no stopping for the "week off."  I wouldn't just take one extra week though as that could really s***w up her cycle.
