Hi guys... Basically my trouble is this: I have an older brother that is marrying this month on the 28th and I have the ring, necklace, and earring since here in America it is WAAAY cheaper than South Korea.

But I have to take the jewelry (ring is 10k, earring is 7k, and necklace is 4k)

However will taking jewelry worth 25K illegal? I mean, it is for my brother's wedding... :(

Also, will the metal in the case make the metal detector go off?

I'm soooo freaking out here please help me and answer!!!

How should I take the jewelry out to the airplane? Do the metal in those jewlery link set off? ty!

  1. Legally speaking...well, I've never been to South Korea in my life, but with other countries you just have to fill out a customs declaration form, and you might have to pay some customs fees.  I would think it would be a good idea to also have a receipt from the purchase in case you are questionned about the price of the items.

Regarding the metal detector, don't worry.  I've worn more metal than that without setting it off.  If it's in your carry-on bag, they may see it on the scanner, and if they aren't sure what it is, they'll open it up and look at it and see that it's harmless and send you on your way.

Whatever you do, though DO NOT put it in your checked luggage.  Sometimes they lose a bag and you never see it again, and the baggage handlers stole a couple items from my friend's suitcase once.

  2. Do you live here in america or did you just fly here for the jewelry?  If you are a resident then i'd imagine it would be no different than bringning personal jewelry from home or no different than bringing a gift to him.  Otherwise, you may need to complete a customs declaration.  Be sure to pack it in your carry-on - don't put it in checked luggage.

  3. I'm not sure why it would be illegal to take jewerly you bought in America (which would be essentially yours) to S. Korea.  anyway, yes it will go off...you can't Fedex it?

  4. I think you should just mail them and insure them to the MAXIMUM. then you won't have any flight problems.

  5. You shouldn't have any problem taking the jewelry on board with you in your carry on luggage - do NOT put it in your checked luggage - if the screeners feel something is suspicious they will ask to look at it - but the cost of the jewelry is not the problem - it will be what you are carrying it in - h**l, people wear jewelry that costs that much every day onto airplanes.

  6. you'll be fine.  just keep it in your carry-on.  its your jewerly, people would understand that you didnt want to put it in the checked luggage just incase it got lost.  you'll be fine.

  7. I have always worn my rings and necklaces while going through security with no problem. Put in in your suitcase and don't say a word about it.
