  1. I'm guessing "pets at home" is a pet store, although I've never heard of it.  In that case, most pet stores allow pets inside.  There's no reason you can bring your rats.  However I would suggest a few things....

    1. Have a bag or carrier where your rats can go if they feel scared.  Sometimes there are dogs or other animals that can scare your ratties.

    2.  If you'll be out for awhile, bring a small water bottle so you can give them a drink every 1/2 hour or so.

    3.  Bring wipes or napkins.  Especially if this is their first time out in a public place, accidents are likely.

    4.  If the commotion seems too much for them, go home.  You don't want to stress them out if they're not having fun.

    Enjoy :-)

  2. Pets at Home? If they don't play with their toys, try getting them chew sticks or Nylabone Healthy Edibles(dog bone) if they don't use their chew sticks.

  3. Do not take your rat to a pet store that sells animals, especially if it sells rats. Your rat could very easily pick something up from a sick pet store rat while there. In fact, I'd recommend waiting an hour or two before returning home after going in there yourself to be sure you don't bring home pathogens on your clothes (the two biggest viruses rats get can't survive without a host past two hours).

  4. I work in Pets At Home and though it is perfectly fine to take your rats in- we allow ANY animal in, though the most common is dogs- I would keep them in a suitable (plastic) travel cage, not on your shoulder/pockets/pouch etc. simply because if there are any dogs out, well- it may not end well. The rats may get scared or even injured.

And don't expect to be able to 'try out' the toys. If they get teeth marks on them, or poo/wee on them, you're buying them! It's not right for us to write off toys just because you wanted to try it out.

It would be better if you left them at home, but it's your choice, I guess.

  5. What do pets at home do with the animals who are ill and have an infection, I remember the article in the papers when it was petsmart (UK).

  6. so what wold be the point in taking him there?

cant you just go by yourself?

  7. The restaurant manager got upset when I took my rat into his dining room

  8. too many dangers an idea is though wear a hoody and put them in your hood they like going outside like this its very rare for them to jump out, just try in your garden first as they get comfortable with it you can go further......a fleece jumper one with the giant pocket all across the front  works well they like these....

  9. I would leave them at home.  They won't enjoy a trip out to a shop.  If they don't play with their toys then save your money and give them things that are free such as empty boxes, tissue rolls tubes, smooth pieces of wood or sticks etc.  Things like Smartie tubes are also fun for them.
