Takuma Ueda crushes Edwin Ekiring in Men’s Singles quarter-final at US Open Grand Prix Gold
Japan’s Takuma Ueda remained consistent on court and secured his place at Men’s Singles semi-final after punishing Edwin Ekiring of Uganda in quarter-final showdown of Yonex OCBC US Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Thursday, July 5, in USA.
Takuma, who is top seed in the championship, proved his superior class by playing commanding badminton and overpowered his lower ranked opponent Ekiring in a lopsided manner.
The higher ranked Takuma has been playing flawless badminton throughout the US Open and continued his smooth sailing in Men’s Singles quarter-final when he thrashed Ekiring in straight sets with a huge margin.
The 16th seeded Ekiring was lacking the impressive touch in his shots and remained struggling on court as he failed to manage the pace of rallies. He could not deal the aggression of his rival and lost the match easily in just 34 minutes.
In the first game, Takuma was a bit slow in opening rallies but he became aggressive after getting familiar with the court conditions. He started to dictate the pace by playing attacking badminton and pushed Ekiring to a defensive position.
Until the one-minute interval in opening set, it was Takuma who set up a tremendous lead of 11-7 on the score board.
The top seeded Japanese shuttler continued his smooth sailing on court after the one-minute interval by keeping the pace of rallies high.
Takuma was in good control of rallies and finished off the first game with a one-sided score of 21-12.
In the second game, Ekiring tried to break the momentum of his higher ranked Japanese opponent but failed to play aggressive badminton.
On the other hand, Takuma remained positive and consistent in his positive play and took a stunning lead of 11-6 until the break.
After the 60-second interval, Takuma continued showing his remarkable skills on court as he did not face any trouble from Ekiring in the entire concluding phase and bagged the game with a one-sided 21-13 score on the board.
The in-form Takuma ended up this Men’s Singles quarter-final clash in just 34 minutes with a tremendous score of 21-12 and 21-13.
