Takuma Ueda passes H. S. Prannoy test in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Vietnam Open Grand Prix
Takuma Ueda, who is one of the most dedicated players from Japan, worked to his maximum potential in Men’s Singles round-of-16 and remained successful in beating India’s H. S. Prannoy at the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 on Thursday, August
23, in Vietnam.
The impressive Ueda, who has been seeded at number six in the main draw, had to dig deep into his reserves to overpower his in-form Indian opponent in a hard-fought battle that took 70 minutes of quality play from both sides.
The higher ranked Ueda started the match in a positive way and won the first game but lost the second set as the Indian shuttler grew stronger.
Nonetheless, the Japanese player showed his tremendous class in the final set and won the match with a decent margin on the board.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Prannoy played with impressive passion as he showed aggression on court and troubled his rival by taking the match into third set. However, he failed to play positive and dominating game in the final set and lost the battle
in a respectable fashion.
In the first set, the sixth seeded Ueda commanded the rallies making his rival work hard to return the well executed shots. He remained in complete control until the mid-game interval when he was ahead of his rival.
After the one-minute break, Ueda continued showing his remarkable skills on court without sparing any chance for his opponent and bagged the set with a wonderful margin of 21-14.
In the second set, Prannoy lifter up his level of play by maintaining his focus in the game and remained close to Ueda until the break.
After the interval, the Japanese player tried his best to stop the aggression of his rival but failed to play positive badminton and lost the set with a difference of 17-21.
In the deciding set, both shuttlers were focused on court and remained quite close until the end of opening half.
Nevertheless, Ueda played smart game in the concluding phase by putting pressure on Prannoy and took the set with a margin of 21-17.
The higher ranked Ueda won this pre-quarter-final battle in rubber-game of 70 minutes with a 21-14, 17-21 and 21-17 score on the board.
