Takuma Ueda tames Petr Koukal in Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix
Japan’s Takuma Ueda surged into the Men’s Singles quarter-final after he tamed Czech Republic’s Pets Koukal in the pre-quarter-final of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix, in Richmond DC, Canada, on Thursday, July 21.
The sixth seed, Ueda, who is currently holding the Number 43 spot in the world rankings of Men’s Singles, delivered a superb performance by playing terrific badminton against Koukal and bagged the straight-set fight by working for 42 minutes in the court.
The Japanese was impressive in finding the gaps in his opponent’s court, as he always remained in a good position to hit the bird hard in the right areas. His fast movement earned him wonderful advantage over Koukal, who was not finding a good flow to compete
with the speed of his challenger. Ueda was in a clear lead of 11-7, at the end of the opening part of the game.
After taking rest for one-minute, the Japanese again remained in a dominating position in the game as his perfectly placed strokes were disturbing the rhythm of Koukal, who was not finding any gaps in the court of the Japanese. Ueda maintained a considerable
grip on the game and won the first game in 23 minutes, with the score of 21-18.
The second game was easier for the Japanese shuttler when compared to the previous set, as Ueda was flying around the court without any difficulty. He was playing with great anticipation, as he picked some surprising strokes of his rival with wonderful ease.
He played top-class badminton and reached at 11-6 in the opening part of the second set.
Koukal tried to become fast to pick the shuttlecock early, but he completely failed to play accordingly as his rival was too strong for him. Ueda continued his power-play in the second set by playing composed and positive badminton and finished-off the second
game with a margin of 21-13, in 19 minutes.
This Men’s Singles two-set match ended with the victory of the Japanese shuttler by a margin of 21-18 and 21-13.
