Takuro Fujii claims the Men’s 100m butterfly title on day one of the 2011 Canet En Roussillon
Takuro Fujii of Japan dominated proceedings in the Men’s 100m butterfly final, as he captured the gold medal of the event on the first day of the 2011 Canet En Roussillon.
The championship is the third stop of the 2011 Mare Nostrum Series and paves way for the final stop of the event at Monaco, to take place from June 11-12, 2011.
The Japanese swimmer posted a time of 52.24 seconds to overwhelm the efforts of his following competitors. The 26-year-old Kaio
Marcio Almeida of Brazil followed him on the finishing wall as the second fastest swimmer, producing a time of 52.81 seconds. Chad Le Clos of South Africa completed his swim in the third fastest place and reached the podium for the
bronze medal, posting a time of 52.91 seconds.
Fujii is the bronze medallist of the 4*100m medley relay category at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He also won a silver medal in the 4*100m medley relay and a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, in Irvine. The 26-year-old
Fujii also acquired the bronze medal of the 100m freestyle at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.
Fujii made his intentions clear, to win the gold medal from the starting blocks. He obtained the fastest spot in the first-half of the race, where he completed his first lap of the swim, with a magnificent timing of 24.78 seconds. He was followed by Short
Course 200m butterfly world champion, Le Clos, who completed his first lap in the second place, clocking 24.93 seconds. They were followed by Almeida, who ended his swim in the third fastest place, with a time of 25.25 seconds.
In the next lap, the Japanese swimmer maintained his fastest spot, conquering the gold medal in 52.24 seconds, whereas, the arena witnessed a below-par performance from Le Clos, who failed to sustain his spot in the final lap and finished third behind Almeida.
Fujii was happy with his noteworthy swim, claiming that he will perform better in the upcoming swimming events.
