Takurou Fuji wins Men’s 100m freestyle semi-finals: Day four - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Takurou Fuji won the qualification rounds of Men’s 100m freestyle semi-finals on fourth day of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday, April 5.
Fuji displayed his scintillating efforts in the double-lap freestyle discipline as he overpowered the fastest qualifying swimmer, Ranmaru Harada in the second round of the event.
Fuji went full throttle in the 100m discipline and proved his mettle for top position by ending his swim in a time of 49.12 seconds.
He was followed by Shinri Shioura, who stayed 0.60 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 49.72 seconds.
The third position of the discipline was secured by Kazuki Nagura, who remained nearly two strokes behind his former finisher and posted an effort of 49.90 seconds.
Nagura was chased by Harada, who failed to meet expectations of his supporters and finished fourth in the semi-final by completing his race with an effort of 49.91 seconds.
Harada was trailed by Katsumi Nakamura, who remained 0.04 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 49.95 seconds.
Subsequently, the arena witnessed gruelling efforts of Yayoi Matsumoto in the Women’s 100m freestyle semi-finals. Matsumoto remained comfortably ahead of her challengers and hit the wall with an effort of 54.37 seconds.
She was followed by Haruka Ueda, who stayed 0.18 seconds behind and posted a time of 54.55 seconds for second best qualification spot.
The third finest qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Hanae Itou, who remained nearly half body length behind and posted an effort of 55.18 seconds.
Itou stayed nearly three strokes ahead of Natsuki Hasegawa and Mao Kawakami, who remained engage in a neck-to-neck race and occupied fourth best qualification spot of the discipline by producing an identical effort of 55.58 seconds.
The duo was followed by Miki Uchida, who remained 0.04 seconds slower from them and posted a time of 55.62 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all planned events whereas these challengers will face each other in the in playoff, where the top three finishers will secure the podium.
