Takuto Niki thrashes Yusuke Watanuki in the final qualifying round – Toyota Challenger 2012 CH
In the all-Japanese affair, Takuto Niki, gave a straight-sets defeat to his junior, Yusuke Watanuki, in the 2012 Dunlop World Challenge Tennis Tournament held at the carpet courts of Toyota, Japan. He took down his compatriot
6-3, 6-1 in nearly one hour and 12 minutes on the eve of Sunday.
The Japanese duo encountered each other at the first round of the Japan F6 and Niki conquered his rival in a breath taking three set entertaining match.
The 25-year-old Japanese, Niki, commenced the match on a very powerful note and confidently drew the first blood. He adopted a very proactive strategy in his encounter and cashed on his challenger’s serve in the second game, marking
a 3-0 lead. However, his challenger did not show a single glint of resistance but the two players held their serves in the remaining time of the set. Niki displayed his classic tennis skills and halted his rival, taking off an impressive run in order to clinch
the front line. Nonetheless, he did not miss a single opportunity, sustaining his focus and smoothly plucked away all the games, pulling the set with a decent lead of 6-3.
The Japanese qualifier, Niki, completely dominated his competitor by thundering 10 aces onto him. Although he had an average initial serve accuracy of 51 percent, converting 16 of 18 first and eight of 17 second serve points. Watanuki
was unable to bombard even a single ace, with an average first serve of 50 percent, pocketing away 10 of 11 first and five of 11 second serve points in vengeance.
The right-hander Japanese junior, Watanuki, started the second set at a very weak note, as he was unable to sustain his initial serve. Niki proved to be smart and nudged up to gallantly pocket away the initial five games and cashed
his challenger’s serve every time. Gradually, the Japanese junior surprised his opponent by cashing on his serve in the sixth game. However, Watanuki’s move did not affect the winning order, as he was unable to rally forward with the game thrust. Eventually,
Niki terminated the match with a breadstick.
