Talandracas lift 2011 Harcourt Developments Queen’s Cup: Polo News
Facundo Sola scored the game-winner in the overtime, as Talandracas powered a 9-8 victory over Enigma to clinch the 2011 Harcourt Developments Queen’s Cup that took place at the Guards Polo Club in London, on June 12, 2011.
It was a quite competitive fixture which was decided in the seventh round, as both the teams locked their horns at 8-8 in the regular six chukkas. Despite heavy showers and bad weather, a large numbers of onlookers enjoyed the thrilling game between the two best squads.
The team of Talandracas comprised of Lucas Monteverde, Facunda Sola, Edouard Carmignac and Milo Fernandez-Araujo. On the other side the team of Enigma consisted of Juan Jauretche, Matias MacDonough, Jerome Wirth and Juan Martin Nero.
Both the teams started the game quite professionally and carried out back-to-back attacks against each other in order to create their dominance into the game. The opening half of play comprised of some brilliant moves from Enigma. Their strikers displayed impressive game in the opening two chukkas and notched five goals. On the other hand, the resilient defence from Enigma held Talandracas only for a single goal.
Following a couple of fast and furious chukkas, the strikers from Enigma failed to make an addition in the third set of play and remained scoreless. Talandracas obtained another goal and trailed by three goals after the three chukkas of play. Lucas Monteverde and Milo Fernandez-Araujo added one goal each in the Talandracas scoring.
The Talandracas attack came alive in the fourth set of play and they obtained three goals, while holding Enigma goalless in the seven and half minute of play. Matias MacDonough, Juan Martin Nero and Juan Jauretche participated in the scoring and had it all even at five-all.
The two sides showed brilliant performance in the last two chukkas and exchanged three goals. At the end of the regular time-period, both the teams locked horns at eight-all. The tie-up forced the two sides into the extra-time to decide the fate of the title.
The overtime, which started at high speed, was filled with lot of attacks and counter-attacks. However, Facundo Sola chipped in a goal and managed the first ever win for Talandracas in the 2011 Harcourt Developments Queen’s Cup.
Owing to brilliant show-off, Fernandez-Araujo was picked up as DeWitt Most Valuable Player, while Chica, the mare of Juan Martin Nero, was chosen as Best Playing Pony of the tournament.
