Talar Laa clears qualifying round of 2012 Junior National Badminton Championship
India’s budding shuttler, Talar Laa played with great precision and gained access to the main round of 37th Junior National Badminton Championship on Sunday 11, 2012.
He cast out Kunal Mehta with ease in local badminton arena of Imphal and claimed a straight-set win.
This tie was part of Boys’ Singles Under-17 event and both contenders remained head-to-head for 20 minutes before ending this match with final figures of 21-11and 21-16.
The top seeded shuttler Talar Laa laid the foundation of his dominance by clinching first match point with distinction and then served notice of his supremacy with a 2-0 victory.
Meanwhile, the other Indian youngster looked completely out of touch as he remained at the lower end all the way to the final moments.
In first set of the match, Talar Laa started the beating from very first stroke and maintained this rhythm until last shot was played.
He mounted pressure by gathering couple of consecutive points straight away in the beginning and then capitalised this psychological edge to keep his rival under control. This initial lead helped him to pile up a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
After the mid-game break, Talar Laa did not lose focus at any stage and swept the table with a huge difference of ten points.
He continued playing with an authoritative approach and prevailed in few uninterrupted rallies in third quarter of the set. He struck hard when it mattered and tipped the scale in his favour with 21-11 score on the board.
However, it was not an easy win in the following set as Kunal Mehta showed some spark and challenged his competitor in areas of the game.
This time the Indian lad played with right attitude and established a decent lead in the beginning but then couple of unforced errors triggered the collapse.
Talar Laa did not squander this opportunity and bounced back with a strong reply. At first, he levelled the score and then made a notable difference in later part of the game.
He manipulated every loop-hole masterly and locked the honour by registering an overwhelming margin of 21-16.
