Sorry I've been asking so many of these, but how did Defarge feel about what happened to Doctor Manette?

This is another school question. I've read chapter 5 3 times and I couldn't find the answer.

  1. Defarge had been Dr. Manette's servant, and when Manette was freed, they asked Defarge if he would take care of him. He did so, and pitied him as a victim of the same oppressors of himself, and also Manette probably had been a good master to Defarge. Later in the book, when Madame Defarge is insisting on the extermination of Darney, Lucie, and the child, Defarge tries to dissuade her, reminding her of how Dr. Manette and his daughter have suffered.

    Hope this helps.
