I would say sing a song that shows you can be diverse with your voice so a song that may be a little harder than average songs.

I like Sophia by Nerina Pallot, that's a hard one but a lovely one when you get it right.

OR, Justin Nozuka After Tonight, because I do love that song.

They're just the songs that I sing and really touch people apparently.

Take a meaningful song, meaningful to you or one that breathes a reason. Anyone can pick a chart topper but you need something that you can put your musical passion in and make it come alive. It doesn't matter what song just as long as you can put your passion in it and make everyone stop and stare.

you should definitely pick a song that you sound good singing depending on your voice. you should try some different songs like get a kareoke game to practice to see who you sound good to.

You need to find a song you are comfortable with and know well as everyone else is diffrent you know I am more comfortable with the Songs I listen to andf like as one is Wait for You bY elliott Yamin and Maroon 5 along with daughtry and other songs. But for you, you need to find something you enjoy and good for you to sing. it's really in your hands but idf you like the songs others choose for you Go for it as only you would know.

i don't have any suggestions but a song that only requires a small vocal range so you don't have to struggle and strain you voice.. a limited vocal range can show off you best bits, and hide you worst :)

I'd suggest BREAKAWAY by Kelly Clarkson. It sits comfortably in the voice and isn't as rangy or dependent on a rhythm track as some of the other suggestions here. There is a karaoke version available for download at limewire.com that you could practice with.

Hey I'm an alto, too. After Tonight is an awesome song. I love it. Hmm..when I was in High School, for various shows, I sang Hit Me WIth Your Best Shot and I sang Breathe by Anna Nalick. Let's see..what else is a good song...If you want a good power one, you could always go for Hero..ya know the one from Shrek haha that's a good one. I like singing that one. Not sure if you're in to Country, but I Ain't in Checotah Anymore or Redneck Woman are fun to sing, too. I probably didn't help you at all lol but I tried. Hope you pick a good song!
