Tales Of Grimm seeking better surface to make comeback
Tales Of Grimm’s connections are looking for the better conditions in order to bring the 3-year-old back on the racecourse. The bay colt has been out of action since his debut success at Newbury in August last year.
Sir Michael Stoute’s dashing trainee was due to make his seasonal debut in last month’s Greenham Stakes at Newbury, but the heavy ground forced the connections to withdraw his name just before the competition.
Sir Michael Stoute stuck to his decision and ruled his charge out of the 2000 Guineas due to the same reason. The connections look adamant that the colt will not make his way to the racecourse unless he gets favourable conditions. Barry Simpson, who is racing
manager for owner Sir Robert Ogden, stated:
"We're just desperately waiting for better ground with him. He's a superb-actioned horse and it's frustrating for us all that we can't get him on the track.”
"I think quite rightly we made the decision not to run in the Greenham because of the ground and we decided not to go for the Guineas, either, as I think you need that experience going into big races," he added.
The American colt will look to replicate what he did on his debut last year. Under Kieren Fallon, he performed magnificently in the Don Deadman Memorial European Breeders' Fund Maiden Stakes (Div I).
Although the 11-10 favourite, Firdaws, kept disturbing him right through the event, the novice managed to secure the top place by a head’s distance.
The Sir Robert Ogden-owned holds entry for next month’s Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot. However, he is unlikely to unleash his talent in the mega event, as the connections are a bit uncertain whether he is up to that level.
Simpson described that the colt will have to be pretty impressive in his upcoming appearances at Newmarket and Sandown to show his readiness for the Royal Ascot meeting.
"There are conditions races at Newmarket and Sandown coming up for him and clearly he'd have to be pretty impressive in those to take up a Royal Ascot engagement," he shared.
