Tales Rocha Cerdeira grabs Men’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day one – Maria Lenk Trophy
Tales Rocha Cerdeira of CRF/RJ grabbed the crown of Men’s 200m breaststroke on the primary day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Tuesday, April 24.
Cerdeira faced strong battle from Felipe Ferreira Lima of FIAT/MINAS in the first three laps of the race, but with his astounding efforts, he managed to outperform him on the finishing end for gold medal.
With his astonishing efforts, he stayed hardly two strokes ahead of his strongest competitor and tapped the finishing wall for first position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 12.40 seconds.
His fabulous effort placed him 0.22 seconds ahead of Lima, who finished his swim in second best place by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.62 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Henrique Marques Barbosa of CRF/RJ, who remained 0.90 seconds behind his former finisher and accomplished bronze medal of the event by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 13.52 seconds.
Following that, Gabriel Fidelis Souza of PRAIA CLUBE snared fourth best position of the event. Souza stayed nearly two seconds away from his former finisher and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.62 seconds.
Fifth spot of the event was achieved by Raphael Oliveira Rodrigues of ECP/SABESP, who remained 0.69 seconds behind and ended his race with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.31 seconds.
The sixth position of the discipline was obtained by Jorge Mario Valdes, who was almost full body length behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 17.47 seconds.
Valdes was followed by Diego Uchoa Santos, who occupied seventh position of the event as he tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 18.11 seconds.
Finally, Thiago M Parravicini of CRF/RJ ended eighth in the breaststroke event as he remained 1.20 seconds slower and reported a time of 2 minutes and 19.31 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders raked medals after the session. In addition, the championship will conclude on April 29 after all swimming events.
