Hey, I was wondering whats some ways I could kind of get my mom to let me be home schooled. I've asked her before but, she says "No you need to make friends and be sociable" but every school I ever go to I never seem to make friends. She let me move schools this year but, today was my second day and I already hate it. So do you know anyways that I could maybe get her to let me get home schooled?

-Thanks

  1. Since her worry is socialization, make that your focus. Search online for homeschool groups in your city, county, state. Find as many as you can. Ask them about activities that go on. That's just the homeschooling stuff.

After that, look at other activities you could do with others. See if your city or rec centre or community college or all of them have programs for kids your age. These might be sports, exercise, cooking, anything. Also look for volunteer opportunities.

Put your list together of all the social things you can do without school and then show them to her.

  2. well you could look up home school groups in your area and if non of them sound good to you you could try looking for volunteer centers then your mom will know that you will still be sociable and be getting out of the house also you could look at curriculum and have a plan so that way your mom wont have an excuse if you need ne more help you can e mail me trust me i know moms are tricky

  3. Some people are more sociable than others. There's nothing wrong with you if you prefer to have a few close friends. Be respectful and talk with your mom in a calm manner.

There's some good advice on this blog about talking to your parents about homeschooling http://www.virtualonlineschool.blogspot....

  4. i'm guessing that going to school with all those people is a little out of your comfort zone. but you have to do it know. being the new kid is ruff but be yourself because being social is really important. you need to make friends and stop living in your house. school is always horrible the first day but it well get better but you have to put yourself out there.

  6. Tell her home schooled children are usually a year or more academically ahead than other children and when the child is in high school, they are usually years ahead peers their age.

Also tell her that you can still be with other kids your age by attending camps, group classes, clubs, etc.

P.S You can still get into college if you chose to be home schooled, my friend did.

  7. First of all, are you not planning to go to University or college?  Being home school now you're ignoring the social world, but when you get to uni/college, there is bound to be 100x people there.  Go to a regular school and just talk to people!

  8. Explain to her that you don't make friends easily, to the point that it's beginning to interfere with your education.  Tell her you'd like to be homeschooled, and join a homeschool co-op, where you've heard people are friendlier and easier to be friends with.  Do your homework first and find out about the homeschool co-ops, support groups, or whatever they call themselves where you live.  See if they have lots of "park days" and get-togethers, any group lessons, any sports teams, organized field trips, and other fun stuff for your age.  Find out the procedure for where you live, for filing a letter of intent to homeschool, and what other information you might need to send in along with your letter. Then you can present her the information along with your request.  When she sees that you are serious and responsible, maybe she'll be more apt to listen.  Point out that homeschoolers usually score much higher on standardized tests than public schoolers do, and are actively recruited by colleges because they usually have better independent study skills, better organization, and are more sure about their priorities than public school kids.

    Good luck!
