Question:

Talk about POWER-BOMBS!!! Prime Foreman nose-to-nose with Prime Shavers. . . whaddythink?

Frazier says no one hit him like Foreman did. He claims that George felt like he had steel ingots in his gloves, making Frazier actually leave the mat for a second until he landed (in their second fight, when Frazier had his head shaved.)

Holmes says that Shavers hit him like a sledgehammer on the chin. Part of the mystique of Holmes is that he was able to get up from the power shots of Shavers.

When Shavers asked Foreman at the HOF (on stage, in front of hundreds of attendees), "Why didn't we ever fight, George?", the countertop-grill entrepreneur replied, "You'd have killed me, Earnie."

Who do you think would have won in this mythical clash of heavies?

  1. Good question.

    Nose to nose- shavers.

    But george overall.

We mostly remember his simple brutal KO's of guys like norton and frazier and stunning blunder against ali, but there were fights in his career he proved he could fight tactically. I think he would bring a little too much to the table for shavers, at least 7 times out of 10 anyway.

  2. I think Shavers hit harder.  Of course Foreman was one of the hardest hitting heavyweights ever though I think his opponents were more scared of him than his punches.  People like Joe Frazier and Ken Norton were intimidated by George's size and his brooding and intimidating presence that they'd lost the fight even before the opening bell.  But Ali changed all that when he allowed himself to get hit by Foreman's big bombs 'til the poor guy punched himself out.  With Shavers, it was just raw power.  But all his opponents, including Ali, felt his power.  Ali even said, it shook his ancestors in Africa.  So in terms or raw punching, I'd go with Shavers.

  3. Foreman beat Lyle and Lyle beat Shavers so you would think Foreman would win this one. But styles make fights so that doesn't always give us the outcome.

I have always wondered how Shavers would have faired against the likes of Frazier, Liston and of course Foreman.

I think with the power these two guys had it could of been one of those wars similar to the Foreman and Lyle fight where the man with the bigger heart won.

What a lot of people will agree on is that these men are both two of the hardest punchers in the history of boxing and this is why i believe the man who wanted to win it the most would.

My prediction is Foreman would win by a 4th round knockout in a war that sees both men hit the canvas at least once.

  4. Chris stole my thunder, in regards to the Lyle connection.

I'll take Foreman in this one!

  5. Even though I cant stand Foreman,Id have to say he would have beat Earnie by KO similar to Lyle did,My friend in Liverpool knew Earnie and he's some character,so it's begrudgingly a Foreman win by poss rnd 19 with a 'bomb'as you call them!

  6. Foreman was a much better fighter overall and I think he would have handled Shavers pretty easily. Foreman KO3 Shavers

  7. thumbs up to chris...foreman knows what he has to do !

  8. Shavers lasts about 3 rounds with Foreman.  Foreman win by KO late in the 3rd round.
