  1. you've been jumped, as in beaten and you've been sexually harassed and they still don't want to homeschool? I don't know what to tell you. You are in danger if you stay in that situation. Research homeschool and ask them to look into it with you. Many people have heard negative stereotypes about homeschool and believe them or think it takes alot more money than it really does. So, prepare for a presentation, just like you were going to give it at school, and give it to your folks. Good luck!

  2. I would suggest that you transfer to another school.

if you are sure you want to home school and they are worried about socialization, then contact your local home school support group or co-op and gather information about the programs, camps and lifestyles, to present to your parents. it may be that your parents don't feel they have time for such changes. this is something that has to be worked out. information in the key. gather as much info as possible before you make your decision.

  3. switch schools

  4. If socialization is their main concern, come up with a list for them of other ways you'll socialize. 4H club, sport teams, community center classes, volunteer at the library or a local theater or hospital or church or local Habitat for Humanities, look for all kinds of activities going on for kids your age and make a nice, long lists of other ways you can socialize.

Make an agreement to do a variety of different things. If socialization is their only concern, this might ease it and let them reconsider.

  5. You don't need to go to school to socialize. The world isn't empty outside of school.

It is your life after all, ask your parents to meet you half way at least.

  6. Yep, apparently its vital for kids to experience the type of socialisation that gets one jumped and sexually harrassed!!??  Sorry, this attitude amazes me.  Do your research.  Encourage your parents to chat to parents who homeschool, either in person or on any one of a number of homeschool forums, including this one, we all face the socialisation issue every time we tell someone that our kids are homeschooled, we get quite good at proving that socialisation is not an issue.

  7. just a thought..... socialization can be gotten through outside activities with others.

4H, drama club, sports, gymnastics, church, youth centers, kids in the neighborhood

socialization is basically interacting with others

try to do some things "outside" your home and use that as an excuse for socialization

  8. I would suggest showing them that you can take online classes.

Unless one of your parents stays home, I believe it is illegal.

  9. I would do some research about homeschooling and present it to them and make it very plain and clear that you do not feel safe at school. The other alternative is Charter Schools if you have any in your area. If they are okay with getting your diploma online but want you to have socialization, you could offer to join some local groups or sports or something.

    Good luck!

  10. Since their one problem seems to be the socialization (although, why they think you need to be sexually harrassed is beyond me), find some homeschooling groups in your area and learn about the activities going on. Make a list of everything. Also find additional things you might do: volunteering, community lessons/classes, sports... Write them out.
