Question:

Talking to a public defender?

Hello, a "friend" of mine (not me) has a "intent to buy" case in CA. He wants me to testify as a witness for him, but I already told the police a little too much info. Now he wants me to go down to his public defenders office to talk to him about being a witness on the case. Would I get into trouble as being the other party involved?, because I really, really don't wanna go talk to his public defender!!! Any advice will help! THX!

  1. The poster above me is correct but I want to add just a little bit more here. Please remember that the public defender that wants to talk to you is defending your friend, NOT YOU.

It may sound nice and safe talking to him in his office, but in court, it could easily turn itself around.

As noted above, the only way I would talk to anyone concerning an intent to buy case would be if I also had legal representation looking out for MY best interests.

At this point in time, your "friend" could easily be trying to set YOU up to take a fall so he can walk.

Best of luck and I hope  this is useful

  2. Don't talk to anyone until you get your own lawyer. If you were the other party involved your friend could blame it all on you. On the other hand if you know anything that an help your friend's case you should tell his public defender, but not until you've talked to a lawyer to make sure it's okay.
