Talking to strangers-is it me, or are people just unfriendly?

Question

I am a normal looking/acting woman. Recently I made relevant comments to the guy in front of me at the grocery store and a women in line boarding a plane. Not yapping their ears off-a single sentence regarding the situation. Both looked at me like I was nuts and didn't respond-WTF?

people are just unfriendly! you were just trying to be nice. idk people are weird..

some people are so freaked out in public that that have no response for you.

don't pay attention to it, they are unsociable and unfriendly.

I suppose that would all depend on the part of the country that you are in...or what part of the country your chosen stranger is from.

  My theory is that people in larger cities feel a bit bombarded with all the interactions they face everyday, and they sort of filter people they meet through a set of questions...what do they want...can they do something for me...or to me?

   If you are not seen as an asset to their lives, they may not be as inclined to accept the contact, not knowing what you may want or need.

Just a theory.

Most people I encounter are pretty outgoing but yeah i get some nuts from time to time... (north and south Cali)

you have given two examples.  if these are the only two times you tried to communicate then try way more. you donnot have to try hard, just say hi, if there is no friendly response to h**l with them.  but use common sense as there are a lot of nuts out there,ok?

Don't worry about it love. Some people are really not too sure about what they are doing here on earth. Maybe in time, say...a day before they will die, they may suddenly wake up to the rest of humanity and recieve a little wisdom that will make such occurances that happened to you. non-existant. One Love.

I think our Government hascreated this situation ever since 911 when we got our a** whipped by the Arabs. Our companies saw big profits in it, so they also ride the SCARE WAVE. Our lives have changed more than anyone can imagine. Our lives are so inconvienced by 911 that we shall never recover.

What a relevant comment about their conversation?  America is almost completely practices individualism around here, being sociable is like the LAST thing they do unless there's something in it for themselves.  

Also depends on the content too, i mean if they were talking about some 'personal' things then it'd be awkward for you to put your say in...they'd find it rude.  But if it's like over a basketball game then they're just plain old unfriendly.  

Probably just bad ju ju (bad luck), i've caught myself puttin my input whenever an interesting conversation goes on...not a lot as i pick and choose when i should do such things..but during the times i do they're pretty open and cool about it.  I've had that happen to me once or twice, but hey...it happens....not everyone are the gregarious types.
