Talor Battle and Blair Brown selected for 2011 Penn State Athlete of the Year– Volleyball news

The names of Talor Battle and Blair Brown were selected for the 2011 Penn State Athletes of the Year on Thursday, June 16. Both these players have admirable records to their credit. Battle has earned himself the credit of being the top scorer for the Penn State volleyball team. Other than that, he has also received an honourable mention in the All-American Associate Press. Brown on the other hand has the credit of securing for herself the title of AVCA All-American for a total number of three times. She was also part of the Penn State women’s volleyball team when it was able to get to the national championships for the fourth consecutive time.

Having had the honour of being selected for the title of the Penn State Athletes of the Year, both Brown and Battle have qualified for an additional honour. Brown has now become eligible for the Suzy Favor Female Athlete of the Year Award. Similarly, Battle is in the running to receive the Big Ten’s Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year Award.

The first time that Penn State was able to make it to the Big Ten Tournament, it was with Battle on board the team. Not only that, Penn State went on to the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament for the first time in 10 years with Battle on the team. During the tournament, Battle was able to come to the second position in the Big Ten ranking. Battle was also able to set a record in the history of Penn State men’s volleyball by being the highest scorer by registering a total of 2,213 points.

Brown was able to earn the 2010 Honda Award. Her career with Penn State now over, she has much to look back at with pride. Brown played an integral role in pushing her team to the NCAA championship four times back to back. Not only that, the Penn State women’s volleyball team also went on an impressive winning streak that lasted a total of 109 matches.

Both Brown and Battle have done Penn State proud and their contributions to the team will be remembered in times to come.
