Question:

Talulah Does The Hula From Hawaii?

Did anyone else hear about the ruling the judge made in New Zealand against parents naming their children odd names?

The name that caused him to make this ruling was a 9-year-old named "Talulah Does The Hula From Hawaii". Other names that were changed were "s*x Fruit", "Keenan Got Lucy" and "Fish and Chips".

When I first heard about this ruling about a judge changing odd names, I thought it was invasive on basic human rights, until I heard what the names were.

What are your thoughts?

  1. Calling kids that is not very funny and racist to my heritage!

  2. it reminds me of that joke about the chief who named all the children born to the tribe ,when asked about it he answered"why do you ask 2 dogs f***ing?".

  3. I read this news story this morning and I say KUDOS to that Judge...people naming their children Ridiculous names has gotten out of hand...now I just wish one of our Beverly Hills Judges would reign in some of the Ignorant Hollywood Stars!  POOR KIDS!!!

  4. I thought the same thing! But I can see how a ridiculous name (especially one like s*x Fruit - who would do that??) would embarrass a child and cause them a lot of teasing from peers. I almost think now that names should be run through some sort of database and anything overly crazy or offensive should at least lead to a meeting with the parents to explain how a name will affect their child's life - but I still don't think they should be banned from using the name or forced to change it.

  5. LOL I thought EXACTLY the same til i saw those names lol

  6. I don't care if parents want to name their children "Spot" "Rover" or some other stupid, weird name, unless it literally crosses the line to indecent (swear words for example) then it's not a judges business... however, we're not talking about a free country, so I don't really know the laws on censorship in New Zealand...

Just look at celebs who have named their babies lately here in the States-Apple... Lourdess (spelling?)... Sunday Rose... YIKES. But as STUPID as these names are, whatever, it's no one's business.

  7. The children won't thank the parents for naming them those names.  Think about Moon Unit Zappa (Frank Zappa's daughter).  How did she feel when she had to go to school with that name?  How did the judge get involved anyway?  Someone had to complain.  I agree with his ruling.  The poor children are the ones that suffer.

  8. That's just awful. (the names) I know one of my relatives that named their daughter "Sky Dancer". >_<

  9. i think that those stupid people who gave cruel  names to their children  are not  good parents they are mentally abusing the child, they must think if they would like to be named like that and  if they can deal with that absurd and ridiculous name. the authorities should also check if those poor little angels are not abused physically by their "parents".

  10. That's no worse than the little girl I met named Sparkle (yes, that was her legal name) I mean seriously... get this kid a pole and some tassles and she'll be ready to go..

  11. lol I am listening to TV and they are discussing this right now. I think that human rights should be invaded on when they are going to ruin a childs life with names like that. That to me is a form of abuse to be that mean in naming a child.

  12. Honestly, I read the article earlier today and could not stop laughing! Why on Earth would anyone do this to their child, they must be doing some crazy a** drugs! I'm glad the judge stepped in, obviously the parents are not thinking in the best interest of the child.

the other one was Number 16 Bus Shelter, that is just crazy! poor little boy;~( and Pilot Inspektor, WTF! even Apple...I could go on for days....

  13. Poor kid! It's good that they have that in place...there's a boy in Michigan named ESPN (after the network).

My cousin is due next month. Thankfully it's a girl, so her name will be Jessica Marie. If it was a boy, she wanted to name him Prince Carter...

In elementary school, there was a girl in my class named Candee Cane. Her middle name? Peppermint.

  14. Everytime I hear this, it makes me think of that Johnny Cash (?) song - the man named Sue (I think that's the name) where the guy grows up and beats up his dad for giving him a girl's name hahahaha

It's cruel!  As if being a kid isn't hard enough, having to deal with bullies - the parents are basically just handing the bullies material to work with when they name their kids something ridiculous like that.

Imagine the poor things on their wedding day - do you "fish and chips" take " talulah does the Hula from Hawaii" to be your bride!  These are names they have to take with them through their entire lives!

Why don't these parents give them normal names and keep the cutesy/stupid names as nicknames?  Weirdos!!!!
