Tamagotchi v2 not working?

Ok, so, I got a tamagotchi v2 years ago. It's batteries died, so I replaced them. When the egg appeared, it hatched shortly after I put the new batteries in.After about 3 more "tamas" the batteries died again. I haven't replaced them since and i just replaced them 2 days ago. Now, the egg appeared on the screen and it just stayed there going up and down. the egg has been on the screen for 1 day already. the previous time i replaced the batteries, the egg hatched on the day i replaced the batteries. Any Ideas?

That means you have a glitch. Simply restart it or get new batteries. Its acting this way because you haven't played with it in years. It might be too old to work anymore.
