Tamara Curovic of Serbia thrashed out of the ITF tournament for racquet assault – Tennis News
Serbian tennis professional, Tamara Curovic, is thrashed out of the Indian Tennis Federation women’s tournament. She was punished for smashing the racquet at the court that is a major abuse to any tennis official and is asking
for trouble.
She was playing her singles quarter-final match at the Cricket Club of India courts. She was leading the opening set 5-3 and was serving to take the lead against the seventh seed Serbian, Javana Joksic. She missed three back-to-back
breakpoints and couldn’t absorb the frustration; smashed her racquet at the court with anger.
Actually, she was not angry on herself. She threw the racquet towards the line judge, Raju Jadhav, who was mildly injured as well. The racquet struck his shin and she was immediately asked to stop the proceedings. The match referee/chair
umpire, Shreeram Gokhale, told this incident to the Indian Tennis Federation supervisor, Sheetal Iyer, who told the umpire to call the day off and dismiss the player at the spot.
Jaksic was gifted the triumph and she booked the spot in the semi-final stage of the tournament. Serbian player has just played five matches this season. She is just 17-years-old and probably the immaturity forced her to do perform
this act. Otherwise, any wise player would have not reacted like that, as the consequences can lead up to the permanent ban as well. It is a serious act and any aggressive attitude towards the tournament officials is not at all entertained in positive fashion.
The Cypriot professional tennis ace, Marcos Baghdatis, is also one of the many examples who have been found guilty of such acts at several occurrences. However, he hasn’t offended any of the officials and has only smashed the racquets
at the courts in anger and frustration.
It is something in player genes. Some players are as cool as cucumber whilst other burst out loud at the referees and show their arrogance on tight calls. The Argentine tennis ace, David Nalbandian, is another example in this regard.
He was found guilty of throwing water on the tournament official after a controversial loss at the hands of the American tennis ace, John Isner, in the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open.
Sometimes it is cruel on players if they are on the receiving end of wrong calls. They practice hard at the courts and then if they are victim of harsh decisions, they are definitely dejected but professionalism is all about holding
nerves and absorbing anger. All players should learn to deal with these types of issues.
