Tamarind Hall set to give trainer Jeremiah Englehart his Breeders’ Cup debut in the Filly and Mare Sprint
Eklektikos Stables’ 4-year-old filly Tamarind Hall is ready to rumble in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on 4 November, 2011, and give her trainer, Jeremiah Englehart, his first Breeders’ Cup World Championships starter.
It was an open allowance test which Tamarind Hall won in June that made her connections felt that it’s time to elevate the filly to graded stakes company, and that is when she ran with the big girls.
It was an instant success as the daughter of Graeme Hall, out of Turner’s Hall by Forest Wildcat, grabbed the first opportunity she was presented at the highest level and became a graded stakes winner.
It was the Grade 3 Bed o’ Roses Handicap at Belmont Park on 3 July, 2011, over a distance of seven furlongs.
Jockey D Cohen who took over from Patrick Husbands, guided the filly to a win against a pretty decent lineup, and covered the distance in 1 minute and 23.82 seconds on dirt, as Kid Kate and Spa City Princess finished second and third, respectively.
With success came confidence, as her connections looked to conquer a grade 1 race with even tougher lineup. It could’ve ended so well, but it wasn’t that bad as Tamarind Hall in her first attempt in the grade 1 event finished third.
It was the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga on 27 August, 2011, over at seven furlongs. Tamarind Hall finished behind Hilda’s Passion and Tar Heel Mom, who finished first and second respectively with Hilda’s Passion covering the seven furlong dash in
1 minute and 22.06 seconds.
Back to Belmont Park, Tamarind Hall represented her connections in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Stakes on 24 September, 2011, over at six and a half furlongs.
The 4-year-old filly was extremely impressive, as she came back from behind with an awesome turn of foot at the right time and with some urging from D Cohen, Tamarind Hall showed quick feet as she switched places in the stretch to challenge the leader Pomeroys
Pistol.
Tamarind Hall stayed on but couldn’t go past Pomeroys Pistol and finished second by a very narrow margin. Her last performance could have prompted connections to take her to the Breeders’ Cup and if she can replicate that again, she might be walking to the
winners’ circle on 4 November.
