Tamarine Tanasugarn shocks Casey Dellacqua in the quarter-finals – Dunlop World Challenger 2012 CH
Top seeded, Casey Dellacqua, received a shocking three-setter defeat at the hands of the lower ranked Thai professional, Tamarine Tanasugarn, in the quarter-finals of the 2012 Dunlop World Challenge Tennis Tournament held at the
Taraflex courts of Japan. Tanasugarn jolted down her 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on the eve of Friday.
The two contestants previously met each other back in the year 2007 at the hard courts of Seoul at the Hansol Korea Open. The Thai gave her opponent an outstanding defeat in the first round, consolidating her win in three sets
1-6, 6-3, 6-2. The same year, Tanasugarn gave her challenger a three-set shocker at the French Open held at the clay courts of Paris.
The 27-year-old Aussie started the opener at a positive note and cashed her challenger’s initial serve. She beautifully scooped away the initial two games marking a 2-love lead since the start. The players held their serves for
the reminding part and the Aussie junior confidently preserved her dominance with a strong objective to clinch the final win. The score line, squared down to 4-all, but Dellacqua swiftly picked up pace and grabbed the last two games, attaining a 6-4 lead in
the opening set.
Ranked 133rd in the WTA Rankings, Tanasugarn nudged forward with a strong resolve to pocket away her win. She confidently drew the first blood, cashing on a crucial break opportunity in the fourth game. However, the
score line squared down to 3-all in the sixth game. She brushed away her participator’s serve in the 10th game and completely demoralized her. Eventually, Tanasugarn engraved a 6-3 lead in the equalizer.
In the final set, the 35-year-old Thai dissolved the left-hander opponent’s serve initial serve. She quickly bagged away the initial two games, stamping a 2-0 lead. Dellacqua was unable to battle forward and soon she buried all
her aims to fight forward. The Thai veterans cashed on the only lone break opportunity in the fifth game, terminating the match with a 6-2 win.
Fifth seeded, Tanasugarn secured a reasonable initial serve of 70 percent, thundering three aces against her competitor. She converted away 52 of 72 first but just nine of 31 second serve points. On the contrary, Dellacqua, secured
66 percent initial serve accuracy, bagging away 31 of 50 first and 13 of 26 second serve points in reprisal.
