  1. Well pet store birds can be exposed to so many diseases first off. But hand-fed means pulled from the nest and hand raised by humans. hand-tame is that they are very comfortable with human contact and tend to be very friendly. I would strongly recommend finding a private breeder and buying from them. For one thing they are healthier and for another they are much cheaper. Not to mention way more lovable. Not hand fed or hand tame means little to no human contact and they can be very aggressive and even bite or attack you.

  2. They are more friendly of course! They are less prone to aggression and biting. You will be able to hold and handle them more easily. Go for the hand fed and tamed one for sure. Chances are it is healthier too.

  3. id go for the hand fed because i raised 1 and it was tame and it loved to be held. my buddy bought one from a pet store and it was scared of him . so id go for the handfed one

  4. Many birds for sale in pet stores have been parent raised or had fed and then not handled any further.  They usually have a fear of people (which is normal considering in the wild they are usually "lunch" for some predator).

A bird that is simply hand fed and plopped back into the brooder with no further handling hasn't learned to appreciate the human touch or to trust people, it has only been hand fed.

A bird that has been hand fed and *socialized* has been handled frequently and played with by the breeder.  It has well acquainted with the human touch and has learned that people can be friends.

Your best bet for bringing home a bird that will easily accept you is to find a reputable breeder that hand feeds and *socializes* the babies.  Get references and check them.  Your new bird will still need time to settle into its new home and get used to you (you'll still have to earn its trust) but this will be MUCH easier than trying to gain the trust of a bird that is virtually wild.

"Taming" a parent fed or wild bird is certainly possible but a socialized baby is MUCH easier.

  5. An untamed Quaker will bite the c**p out of you - and draw blood. It'll take you a lot longer to tame it and get it used to you than it would if you simply get one that's already been socialized. PLUS -- pet stores charge DOUBLE what you can pay for one through a private breeder, and the private breeders have better birds.

  6. One of the big things is untamed ones BITE. You can't play with them like you can a hand fed one. The hand fed ones are very people oriented. The untamed ones are basically wild.
