Tamika Catchings leads Indiana Fever to a 81-68 win over the San Antonio Silver Stars – WNBA Recap
Tamika Catchings scored a game-high 21 points to help Indiana Fever draw out an 81-68 win over the San Antonio Silver Stars on Tuesday night at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Indiana bounced back from a disappointing 19 -point defeat against Chicago Sky on Sunday to earn their sixth victory in 10 games. On the other hand, it was Silver Stars’ fifth loss in their previous ten games.
Catchings also grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked three shots in more than 32 minutes. The 32-year-old shot hit 7 for 13 field goals and all three of her three-pointers. Erin Phillips racked up 18 points,
grabbed three rebounds and stole the ball twice. Phillips ended with 6 for 7 shooting from the field and 4 for 4 from free throw line. Katie Douglas had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in the victory.
Becky Hammon led San Antonio with 19 points on a 5 for 10 shooting from the field and 7 for 8 from the line. Sophia Young added 13 points, game best nine rebounds and two blocks while Scholanda Robinson contributed 12 points and
three steals in the loss. Danielle Robinson came off the bench with 11 points, three assists and three rebounds for the Silver Stars, who are second in the Western Conference with a 12-9 record.
Indiana shot 44.8 percent (26 for 58) from the field and 79.3 percent (23 for 29) from free throw line while San Antonio shot 43.4 percent (23 for 53) from the floor and 60 percent (18 for 30) from the line.
Fever made a solid start and held a 19-13 lead with 01:26 to go in the first quarter. However, Robinson responded with a three-pointer and followed it with a lay-up in the last 36 seconds of the opening period to cut the margin
to one, 19-18.
Indiana outscored the visiting team 20-5 in the second quarter, stretching their lead to 16 points, 39-23, at halftime. Fever maintained their double-digit lead in the third quarter and carried a 63-44 advantage into the fourth.
Trailing by 19 points after three, the Silver Stars failed to threaten the outcome in the last tem minutes of the game.
