Tamim wants more Tests for Bangladesh – Cricket News Update
Bangladesh's premier opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640, has urged the International Cricket Council to schedule more Test matches for his side, which will allow them to improve their standards in the longer version. His comments come after the team showed marked
improvement in the ODI format.
"We need to play a lot of Test matches to improve, to gain confidence, to learn how to deal with situations and play session by session," said the left-handed batsman.
The Bengali Tigers were in superb form at home in the recently wrapped up Asia Cup 2012, where they beat the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. Their performance in the finale was also noteworthy, despite losing
the clash by three runs.
Tamim reckons that playing on a consistent basis has eventually helped his team improve their showings in the limited-overs format, and feels that the side could further improve in the longer version, provided they play the pinnacle format regularly.
According to the Future Tour Program of International Cricket Council, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
“That's the main problem for Bangladesh. The moment we start to do well in Test match cricket, we get a year's break or a 14-month break. If we want to really improve in Test match cricket, we need to play the format a lot more,” said the 23-year-old opener.
Bangladesh have lost 63 out of their 73 Test matches, winning just three. Comparatively, they have a good record in ODIs where they played 262 matches and won 72.
Tamim was unceremoniously excluded from the Asia Cup 2012 squad for his poor performances against Pakistan. However, was later inducted and repaid the faith by scoring four consecutive half-centuries.
The 23-year-old hard-hitter is also among the better stroke makers of his team and has shown ability to perform well in the longer version as well. He has played 24 Test matches, scoring 1748 runs with an average of 38, including four tons and ten fifties.
