Question:

Taming Budgies?

Can anyone give me advice on taming budgies? I have had one for a few weeks now, and she still gets very nervous and bites me when I try to pick her up. (I did have a budgie before her, but someone else took it!)

She sings a lot and sometimes talks. She's about ten weeks old and I would love her to be tame :)

  1. She's a talker already, that's pretty good!! I think the best way to tame these budgies is to keep on trying; talk to them and stay in the room with them as much as possible .... or maybe bring them with you ... even if it's the whole cage ... this'll get them used to change as well and that way they won't have to get used to one room but can enjoy the many different places available for him to live in.  Other than that, try to take him out as much as possible! If they run away and hide, leave them be but then go back after like 10 or so minutes when he's relaxed and try again, and then once he's out of the cage, but it somewhere where he can't fly back to it or possibly even see it. This'll make him stop trying. Then just sit with him and talk to him and maybe put him on your shoulder and let him nibble on your ear if he feels the need. In time, they'll get used to you and hopefully get over the need to be in their cage.
