  1. ok this is what tiko was like at first

    my 10 tips:

1: let the bird come out of the cage on his own. forcing him out is pushing his agressive behavior towards you.

2: never react when he bites. just say NO. if he bites you while perched on your hand, shake is a bit and say NO to get his full attention and so he looks up.

3: offer lots of treats as rewards. anything thats a sign of progress.

4: spend time with your bird. even if its just sitting by his cage, or reading him a book. it teaches him theres no need to be afraid.

5: teach him 'step up' or any other easy tricks. it strengthens the bond. keep the sessions up to ten minutes, but no matter what, make the training fun. as soon as its not fun stop.

6: dont be angry or offended if he hisses. my tiko still hisses and guives the odd nip, its normal for birds. its like saying 'stay out of my personal space'.

7: clip the wings if you already have not. it forces him to rely on you for guidence.

8: if the bird bites, dont ever put him strait into his cage. he'll soon figure that bite=back in cage=safe. you want bite=no=bad boy=no treat.

9: if your bird flys from you or freaks STOP. dont move. after he settles, go retrive him and make sure hes ok.

10: if he starts biting hard and taking controll of you, do the step up ladder. kinda self explanitory... make a finger ladder he can walk up so he gets your the one in controll.

hope this helps. if you need more info, go onto parrots canada.com and click on the new parrot owner for the wild bird. it has more tips and ideas.

  2. I had the exact same problem as you but it was 3 years with your problem.Give it its meals and clean its cage. After doing that try to talk to it.Oh when you do that say its name.If it doesn´t have one then give it one.You need to see if it is a male or female.Look at the orange spot on its cheek covering its ear.If it is a red orange then it is a male cockatiel. If it has a light orange spot it is a female cockatiel. When you try to interact with the cockatiel then try touching it.They love it when you scratch its neck. That is what brought me and my bird together. It will tell you if it wants more ¨Scratchies¨(As I say it) when it bends its head towards you.then you scratch its neck and your bond will be stronger. But what my cockatiel really likes is when I scratch its orange cheek. She LOVES that.Well try contacting me by email if you have anymore questions.Hope this helps!
