Tamira Paszek, Patricia Mayr-Achleitner move into the second round of the Family Circle Cup
Tamira Paszek ousts Melanie Oudin 6-1, 7-5
Austrian tennis player Tamira Paszek upset American pro Melanie Oudin in easy straights to win her opening match 6-1, 7-5. She took less than an hour and fifty minutes to oust her opponent, proceeding to the second round of this
year’s 2011 Family Circle Cup.
Paszek is currently ranked World Number 93, and is 20 years old. She has been playing on the professional circuit since 2005, and recently broke into the Women’s Tennis Association Top 100. She is a right-handed player, and has
won a total of two WTA career titles so far.
Oudin, on other hand, is ranked slightly higher at World Number 75. The 19-year-old player came under attention last year due to her superior performances, and is expected to produce good results in the next few years. She has
been part of the WTA Tour since 2008, but has not won any titles yet.
The match was an easy win for Paszek, who undid Oudin in the first round with a fry. Although the American pro put up a fight in the second round, it was too late and Paszek managed to defeat her 6-1, 7-5. She scored two aces and
committed only two double faults to take an impressive 57 per cent of the total points in the match.
Tamira Paszek will now face third seed Jelena Jankovic in the second round of the Charleston tournament.
Patricia Mayr-Achleitner undoes Shuai Zhang 6-1, 6-4
Another Austrian player Patricia Mayr-Achleitner scored a straight-sets win over China’s Shuai Zhang, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-4 in under two hours to win her first match at this year’s Family Circle Cup. Her match is similar
to that of her fellow Austrian Paszek’s, because both players managed to upset higher-ranked players in straight sets.
Mayr-Achleitner is ranked World Number 108 by the WTA, while her opponent is almost thirty spots higher at World Number 73. Mayr-Achleitner is 24 years old, and has been playing tennis as a pro for quite some time now. Shuai Zhang,
on the other hand, is two years younger at 22 and is also a right-handed player. Neither of the players have won a career title on tour yet.
The Austrian pro completely dominated the first set of the match, putting Zhang in a difficult spot by covering the court completely to take the opening set 6-1. Although the Chinese pro tried to recover in the second set, Mayr-Achleitner
managed to win the match 6-1, 6-4.
Patricia Mayr-Achleitner will now take on the second seed of the tournament Samantha Stosur in the next round of the 2011 Family Circle Cup.
