Tamira Paszek ousts Madison Brengle in qualifying rounds of BNP Paribas Open 2011
Eleventh seeded Tamira Paszek of Austria crushed American wildcard entrant Madison Brengle in the opening qualifying round of the BNP Paribas Open 2011 in Indiana Wells, California on Monday.
Paszek proved far more superior to Brengle, defeating her in straight sets 6-0 6-1 in just 52 minutes.
An outstanding display of sheer dominance from the Austrian puts her into the second round of the qualifiers at Indian Wells. Paszek was simply in majestic touch, beating her opponent in every aspect of the game. She faced no real challenge in ousting Brengle
from the competition.
Although Paszek’s serve lacked venom, her ability to bag points regularly proved vital in her success. A total of 81 points were played in the game and the Austrian remarkably won 53 out of them.
Her victory was equally assisted by the American’s generous unforced errors. Brengle missed plenty of convertible opportunities by hitting the ball wide and committed five double faults in the game. Her bleak baseline defence allowed Paszek to hit some cracking
winners down the line and put her under pressure.
The opening set was an all-Paszek show. The Austrian came out firing right from the beginning and not allowed her opponent to hold serve even in a single game. Paszek raced to 4-0 in the first set after breaking the American’s serve twice. Brengle appeared
in all sorts of confusion in the game and crumbled under the immense pressure exerted by her opponent. The Austrian cracked another serve break to seal the opener at 6-0.
The following set brought no luck to Brengle as her strokes kept missing their targets. She was broken in the very first game of the second set and then again in the third to trail 0-3. The American finally bagged a break point in the fourth game, only to
be broken in the next to take the score to 1-4. Paszek then wrapped up the match with a couple of winners at 6-1.
Paszek will be taking on the 15th seed Andrea Hlavackova of Czech Republic in the second round qualifiers. Hlavackova had an assertive first round victory over Irina Falconi of the United States, beating her in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
