Tamira Paszek outruns Anastasiya Yakimova to reach the second round – BNP Paribas Open 2012
Austrian blooming star, Tamira Paszek, tumbled over the Belarusian competitor, Anastasiya Yakimova, in a see-saw three setter at the BNP Paribas Open 2012 on Thursday. She nudged up a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 victory over the world number 65 in the opening round at
the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California.
Paszek put up a great display of tennis to outmuscle the world number 65 at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Mandatory event taking place in Indian Wells, United States. She took almost two and half hours to not only advance in this tournament
but also avenged her loss at the Estoril WTA event against Yakimova.
The 21-year-old made quick in-roads in the opening set as she cashed in all three break chances and bagged the opener with a 6-4 win. Paszek broke the Belarusian’s serve twice early on and took a 4-1 lead. Despite losing her serve twice after this, the Austrian
managed to bag the opener. Paszek dusted away five out of seven breakpoints she faced and impressively marked 23 out of 59 points on her first serve share.
Yakimova found her rhythm in the proceeding set regardless of losing her serve in the opening game. She was trailing 0-2 before unleashing barrage of forehands to go on a six-game killing spree. The Belarusian failed to block the only breakpoint she came
across but converted three out of four break opportunities to her advantage, eventually registering a 6-2 success.
The Austrian went berserk in the final set which matter the most. She blasted angled shots to wind up the opening four games successively before Yakimova could hold on. Paszek capitalised on her third break chance in the last game and pocketed a breadstick.
Up next for Paszek is the 23rd seed, Lucie Safarova of Czech Republic, who received an opening round bye.
The Kazakhstani ace, Ksenia Pervak, crushed Belarusian qualifier, Olga Govortsova, with a breadstick to join Paszek in the second round. She lost her serve twice but cashed in all six break chances to pluck the match with a 6-3, 6-1 score line in an hour
