Tamira Paszek plonks Carla Suarez Navarro to enter round two – KDB Korea Open 2012
Austrian contestant, Tamira Paszek, got the better of the Spanish challenger, Carla Suarez Navarro, in straight sets at the KDB Korea Open 2012 on Wednesday. She registered a 7-6(8), 6-3 success against the world number 45 to power into the second round
at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event taking place in South Korea.
Battling each other for the second time this season, Paszek carried her rhythm and improved to a 2-0 lifetime in the head-to-head series against the Spaniard. She also moved closer towards her second year-to-date title at the Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Center.
The 21-year-old made a sloppy entry at this outdoor hard court event. She suffered the first blow in the fifth game and fell at 2-4. However, the Austrian not only recovered in the eighth game but dominated in the tie-breaker, eventually sealing the set
with a 7-6(8) win.
Ranked 35th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Paszek unleashed her true colours in the following set. She reeled off the opening three games with two breaks of serve. She lost her serve in the fourth game but broke again to take a 4-1 lead. Despite
losing her edge in the very next game, the Austrian held her composure and clicked the set with a 6-3 win after capitalising on another break chance in the last game.
The Dornbirn native took full advantage of several unforced errors Suarez Navarro coughed. She also fired two aces and acceptably clicked 29 out of 48 points on her first serve share of 54 per cent. Paszek sought 15 break opportunities and finished the match
after bagging 95 points.
Paszek will face off the local wild card entrant, So-Ra Lee, who recorded a 1-1 retirement victory against second seeded Maria Kirilenko to set up this match.
The fourth seed, Nadia Petrova, will accompany Paszek in the round of 16. She amazingly warded off all five breakpoints she came across to keep her entire serves. The Russian seed cashed in three out of eight break chances and ultimately sealed the deal
with a 6-2, 6-4 score line in one hour and 44 minutes.
