Tampa Bay Buccaneers, head coach, Greg Schiano says discipline is first priority - NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach, Greg Schiano is preparing for his first season at the helm of a National Football League (NFL) franchise and the new coach is ready to lay down the gauntlet.
Picked up from Rutgers where the coach had unprecedented success by the owners Schiano has worked hard during the offseason shaping his coaching staff while also adding free agents to the roster to boost the team.
The change in management style from previous head coach, Raheem Morris’ tenure has even turned around veteran cornerback Ronde Barber who changed his mind from retiring to spend another year at the franchise.
Speaking to the Tampa Bay Tribune Barber said.
"This is a different direction for this franchise, even more so than any other time I've been here. Sometimes, change is good."
The Buccaneers ended the previous season with a 4-12 record and lost 10 games in a row after indiscipline and lack of clear instructions from the coaches imploded their 2011-12 campaign.
Schiano though is ready to give the same players another chance and told the newspaper that everyone gets a fresh start under him.
"One of the things that will be evident pretty quickly is guys who love the game will be on our team. Liking it isn't going to be enough at our place. There's nothing wrong with people who like it, but love-it guys lose track of time when they're doing it.
Those are the guys we want.''
Adding further he said.
"We've got the greatest game in the world and this is the greatest league. I know we've had some issues, but as I said, everyone gets a fresh start with me.”
Schiano brought in three of the biggest free agents available in the offseason to the franchise as he looks to rebuild a team around quarterback Josh Freeman and the new weapons in offence will help the quarterback regain his form.
The franchise signed wide receiver, Vincent Jackson, cornerback Eric Wright and guard, Carl Nicks sending a big statement of intent to both their own players and the league that the Buccaneers mean business this season.
Hopefully, for Schiano he can turnaround the fortunes of a talented roster this year.
