Tampa Bay Buccaneers Alex Magee arrested and charged with pot possession and expired vehicle tags
Alex Magee, defensive lineman for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was arrested and charged with driving with expired tags and possession of marijuana on Monday May 9, 2011 in Tampa, Florida.
According to the Tampa Police Department, a police officer pulled Magee over at around 1:15 PM local time in his black Dodge Charger, after running his tags through a central computer and discovering that they were expired.
When the officer approached the vehicle, he recognized the smell of marijuana, prompting him to search Magee’s vehicle, which yielded a small amount of the illegal drug.
Both of the charges are classified as misdemeanours, with a court date set within the coming month, although the exact date is unknown at this time. Magee was released on his own collateral and records do not list an attorney for him.
Magee is the fourth member of the Bucs to be arrested in a period of just over nine weeks. Bucs director of pro scouting Shelton Quarles was arrested on March 4, 2011 and assistant head coach Jayson Kaiser was arrested on April 20, both for driving under
the influence of alcohol.
Aqib Talib, cornerback for the Bucs, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on March 30, 2011 for firing a gun at his sister’s boyfriend. His mother was also arrested and charged in the case, as she had also fired at the victim.
He was not injured, however.
After being drafted 67th overall in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, he played defensive end in their then-new 3-4 defensive scheme. The defensive tackle started in one of the 15 games that he played in during his
rookie season, recording eight combined tackles, six solo and two assisted, as well as two sacks.
He then played two games with the Chiefs in 2010, none of which he started, with two tackles, both of which were solo. He was traded to the Bucs on October 19, 2010 for draft picks, going on to play eight games with the Bucs in the remainder of the 2010
season. Although he did not start in any of those games, he recorded eight tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble.
