Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib cleared of assault charges - NFL News
Good news on Monday for Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans as a Dallas County Court dismissed all charges against cornerback, Aqib Talib.
Talib faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon and was accused of firing a pistol at his sister’s boyfriend on March 11, 2011.
However, during all that time Talib had always maintained that he would be found not guilty by the jury and that promise was fulfilled on Monday.
With all charges dismissed against him, the cornerback now has a clean slate and the former first-round draft pick now has a great opportunity to get his playing career back on track.
Talib’s attorney, Frank Perez released a statement on behalf of the player after the court’s decision which said.
"Aqib is appreciative of the support that he received from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' organization, his teammates, Buccaneers' fans and his friends and family during this difficult period. With this matter now successfully behind him, Aqib's sole focus is
on contributing to a successful 2012 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers."
The cornerback will still have to first deal with National Football League (NFL) commissioner, Roger Goodell who will likely suspend the player for his repeated infractions of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Perez also said that the chief witness, Shannon Billings, also made the prosecution’s case weak since he is currently serving jail-time and is a repeat s*x offender.
He went on to add that.
"We felt strongly the whole time that this would be resolved in Aqib's favour. He's very excited he can resume his career and have a fresh start with no problems."
Buccaneers coach, Greg Schiano has recently come out publicly in support of his player and said that from what he has seen from the cornerback during training is encouraging and he expects him to continue to train hard and deliver on the pitch during the
2012-13 campaign.
Talib’s return will also help solve the issue at the cornerback position and the player will play a big role for the Buccaneers in 2012-13 as they look to make a big push for the playoffs.
It is now up to Talib to remain out of trouble with the law.
