Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib impressed with head coach Greg Schiano's focus on discipline
Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year delivered some of the worst performances ever seen by a professional football team in the National Football League (NFL).
Limping to a 4-12 finish after losing all 10 of their final games, the franchise reached rock bottom with fans resorting to boycotting games due to the poor performances on display.
A lack of discipline in the locker room was one of the biggest reasons for the failings of the Buccaneers and new head coach, Greg Schiano’s first move was to instil discipline in the players.
Cornerback, Aqib Talib who just recently had assault charges against him dropped by a Dallas court can also feel the increase in the focus on discipline during training and in an interview on Friday said that the team last year became too loose, which resulted
in the poor performances.
Speaking in a radio interview with 790-AM in Atlanta, the cornerback said:
“It got a little loose last year where people got a little too loose around the building. So Schiano definitely came in and brought that order back to the building.”
This year the Buccaneers have significantly improved the roster by bringing in some big-name veterans in free agency while also remaining active in the drafts and making some astute moves to improve the squad.
Fans optimism about the upcoming season has increased significantly and some analysts have even gone and predicted that the Buccaneers will be strong challengers for the National Football Conference (NFC) South division Championship.
Talib also talked about the difference he felt in training from last year and said:
“The biggest difference is, I think, the attendance. We had probably like 97, 98 percent attendance since Apr. 4, since we started our offseason program. So that’s the biggest thing. I feel like, before the season, whoever had the best offseason is probably
gonna have one of the best seasons.”
This is an important year for both Tampa Bay and Schiano and pressure is on the first-time NFL head coach to deliver results fast.
Talib himself is looking forward to having a big season this year. His previous seasons in the NFL have been marred by off the field issues and it is now time for the cornerback to deliver on his obvious potential.
