Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib sued for threatening woman in 15-month old traffic accident - NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback, Aqib Talib, is no stranger to run-ins with the law and is the defendant in another lawsuit after a Tampa Bay resident sued the player for threatening her during a traffic accident.
The alleged incident took place in December 2010 and 15-months after the plaintiff, Betty Atwood, is suing Talib for $ 15,000.
Atwood maintains that the accident was due to Talib’s negligence and caused her injuries. She also alleges that before police arrived at the scene the cornerback threatened her by saying that he would “put a cap in” her.
The plaintiff maintains that she has suffered “severe emotional distress” because of the threat and is now looking for monetary compensation.
Talib’s attorney on Thursday released a statement to the press about the lawsuit and said that Atwood had never before in the 15-month time period mentioned the statement to police.
“At no time during the 15 months since the accident has Ms. Atwood ever reported this alleged statement to the police.”
Adding further he said.
“Further, we have witness statements confirming that Aqib never made a statement of this nature toward Ms. Atwood. Following the accident, Ms. Atwood discovered that Aqib played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In order to leverage a substantial monetary settlement,
she concocted a tale to increase her alleged damages."
Hopefully for the 26-year-old this case will be resolved as soon as possible so that he could concentrate on the more damaging court appearance three weeks later.
Talib is scheduled to appear before court on March 26th to face charges of aggravated assault after allegedly firing a gun at his sister’s boyfriend.
The cornerback had a poor 2011-12 season as the Buccaneers boasted one of the league’s worst defences.
Talib had zero sacks this season and made just 34 tackles and two interceptions.
Tampa Bay lost all of its last 10 games of the regular season after injuries and locker room problems led to some of the worst performances by the franchise.
Head coach Raheem Morris was fired at the end of the season with Tampa Bay hiring ex-Rutgers coach Greg Schiano to lead their team.
Hopefully, Talib can resolve all his legal issues soon and start concentrating on the field to help the Buccaneers regain some of their lost pride.
